Market Stories: Heron Scarf

I'm back at Saturday Market on Vashon! I love being at the market. Every one who stops by my booth has a story of some one or some place they love. Some of the stories will live in my heart forever, like this one:

It was the heron in flight that attracted her. The scarf was folded among the $49 15" x 60" scarves on the table. "I'll take it! " she said. I spread it out to package it for her. OOps! It was one of my 35" square scarves! On the bottom, another heron stood at the water's edge, with Mt Rainier in the background.

"Oh, I'm so sorry," I said. "This one is $65."

Her daughter looked over her shoulder. "We can see Mt Rainier from our house on Maury Island, and  a heron often fishes on the beach below our house."

"I don't care about the price" said the older woman. "I'll take it!"

Heron prints and cards are now available in my etsy shop!

Tales of the Red Fox

Jane VAlencia of Forest Halls came to my show opening on April 6th,  and mentions it  in her blog!

This is Dragon Emerging From the Sea, from a Qi Gung excersize that is about energy emerging from the dantien, the center of power in the solar plexis. This image is available as a print or card in my etsy shop!

Wings of a dragon

We were surrounded by Dragons, my Dragons, at Vashon Intuitive Arts  the night my show opened. People buzzed with juicy conversations inspired by the stories my paintings tell, as I limped around the room with my bad knee.

My knee is much better now. I can go up and down stairs without having to slide down on my bottom, and I am looking forward to sharing some of the Dragon Stories that have inspired my paintings and my life over the years. On April 28th, at 7:00 pm, I will be telling stories at Vashon Intuitive Arts. I do hope you can come!

Meantime, my cards and prints will be available on my etsy shop soon, and are available now at Vashon Intuitive Arts, 17331 Vashon Highway SW, Vashon, WA.

Silk for my Friends

Sometimes I think silk scarves just aren't....well, good enough. Unusual enough. I mean everyone is doing silk scarves! I might as well just hang it up.

And then...today as I was hanging them up, hanging up my newest silk scarves, I remembered they joy these scarves give my friends. I love bringing joy to my friends through these scarves. I guess they are worth doing after all.

Giving and Recieving from my Innermost Heart

My finances are looking pretty skinny right now. I know I've lost a sale or two by somehow saying the wrong thing. I'm putting my work out there. People love it. But my income is scanty.

I have this desire to offer work from my innermost heart, beautiful work that will touch other hearts, that will inspire joy and deeper understanding in those who see my work. But income from my work is scanty.

Oh, I see the problem. Look at this meditation drawing I just did. See how the spirals reach out from my heart to touch other hearts? Beautiful, flowing, the way I want my work to be. Now look how my heart, in the middle, is encased in an armor with some sharp edges. My work, my offerings go out, but nothing can get back in!

What if I change that image, do a new image, showing a flow both in and out of my heart, not just reaching other hearts, but being received by other hearts? With the energy going both ways?

Better?

Grieving

Why, oh why am I so full of grief today?
My whole body if full of tears and I know not why.
Spring has come.
Even those little suns in the grass,
the dandelions,
 have come back.
The day is glad, but my heart is sad.

I look at my work and my heart is not in it.
I try to absorb my lessons, but they will not land in my brain.
I try to plan for my business,
and my mind goes bump against an invisible barrier.

Is it only that I have just opened a show of my Dragon Paintings, put my soul out on the line for all to see? Or are there old griefs emerging?
